Cape Town: Bayhill Premier Cup 2025 concludes. The curtain fell on the 2025 edition of the soccer matches when Ubuntu Football Academy was crowned as the 2025 Tournament Champions. The team beat Randburg AFC 2-0 at Athlone Stadium.
The Bayhill Premier Cup has wrapped now and the 2025 edition has produced some scintillating football – reinforcing its reputation as the most prestigious under-19 soccer tournament in the country. As a custom, 32 teams from the Western Cape have participated with the rest of the country and abroad.
The knockout stages of the tournament were held at Erica Park in Belhar with eight groups of four teams who vied for a spot in the round of 16 that is followed by the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
Reportedly, the finals took place at Athlone Stadium, with more than 6000 spectators in attendance, as a glowing endorsement of the calibre of the competition and the support for the local football.
Chairperson of the Safety and Security Portfolio Committee for the City of Cape Town – Councillor Mzwakhe Nqavashe stated that the Bayhill Premier Cup is an integral part of Cape Town’s annual events calendar and even more important to the development of grassroots football in South Africa.
It has been a great source of pride to watch all the young football players showcasing their talent in the Mother City and witnessing Cape Town come out to support them as a community. Nqavashe said, “Congratulations to all the winners and well done to all the participants. Keep up the hard work, discipline and resilience. As a player, that goes a long way in your career. We will see you next year.”
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Service and Health – Councillor Francine Higham said that this is truly a wonderful example of how organised the sporting events can bring out the best in players, but also those cheering from the sidelines.
The atmosphere was absolutely electric, and it is very clear to see why this soccer tournament holds such prestige. Higham further extended her gratitude to each and every one who came out to play, their supporters and also the event organisers for the show they put on. She expressed that they are looking forward to see them all again next year.
