Botswana: The Director General of Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) encouraged her staff to do their best work. DG Botlhale Makgekgenene said that her management must always strive to do better and achieve set goals.
She believed that they work on this through cooperation and working smart. She made these remarks at the DCEC Headquarters in Gaborone.
Makgekgenene was speaking during a Performance Agreement (PA) signing activity. The following members of the DCEC were also present at the event:
- Deputy Director Policy, Erica Ndlovu,
- Deputy Director Operations, Priscilla Israel,
- Senior Manager Corporate Services Oabona Matobana,
- Francistown/Palapye Office Regional Head Canny Gaolathwe
- Maun/Gantsi Office Regional Head Monica Montsho.
Makgekgenene said that Performance Management starts from the top. First, step is tailoring strategies which can be translated into meaningful targets. She said then the targets can be taken to managers for setting goals. The managers can also help in making this process effective by helping them understand the big picture and cascading to their team members.
She further reiterated that “The President has set the tone of where the Country is headed, he has set out the Reset Agenda. He shared the delivery vehicle in the form of Mind-set Change under the banner of “A re Chencheng”.
DG Botlhale Makgekgenene claimed that it is up to her and you to align the DCEC to the national call and deliver on the mandate that we have been tasked with.”
The Director General challenged the DCEC Management to get everyone aligned and excited on the organization mission.
She further asked them to build a culture of trust, transparency and openness. According to DG Makgekgenene they need to create a feedback loop that allows people to assess if they are doing the right things and working well within the culture of the DCEC.
During closing remarks, the DCEC Senior Manager, Corporate Service, Oabona Matobana argued that the leadership signing of PA’s forms a critical puzzle in Performance Management.
She applauded the activity emphasizing that “This session sends a clear and deliberate message to our staff to emulate and embrace. As the DCEC leadership we will not be found wanting in accounting for our performance.”
DCEC Performance Improvement CoordinatorKetshepile Nthomiwa, The DCEC Public Relations Officer Lentswe Motshoganetsi, and Keotshepile Rathokwane from the Design Unit were present at the event.
