Botswana: Botswana Football Association (BFA) President Maclean Letshwiti has unveiled French national Didier Gomes Da Rosa as the new national football team coach.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, President Letshiwti revealed that Da Rosa has a wealth of experience spanning over 15 years and has coached top level teams on the continent. With regard to his expected outcomes and operational requirements, the new coach will work alongside five other local coaches with the aim of taking Botswana football to greater heights.
President Letshwiti further stated that the coach will also be the chief technical point man, pushing the vision and mission of the country, which includes qualifying for the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON), among others.
President Letshwiti further revealed that part of the new trainers’ mandate will be to identify new players at the club level by giving them game time to expose them. Da Rosa will also take up the role of Director of all national teams, including the Women’s Senior National team (The Meres) and all junior teams.

New Football Coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa will replace Mpote. Da Rosa is confident in his coaching abilities and has already been impressed by the football he has witnessed in Botswana since arriving.
In addition to his role as head coach, Da Rosa will also serve as the chief technical Director for both the junior and senior teams. He will be tasked with overseeing and developing the technical aspects of football in Botswana.
While the exact duration of his appointment has not been announced, BFA has stated that they have a short-term contract in place for Didier Gomes Da Rosa, which will be reviewed in March 2024. If the results of the initial contract are positive, Da Rosa may be offered a long-term contract. BFA has also announced that they will cover all of Da Rosa’s salary costs.
