Botswana: The government of Botswana has launched the second phase of school digitization project. The official launch event for the project was hosted at the Makhubu Junior Secondary School in Selibe Phikwe.
The Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe presided over the launch event. He also talked about the importance of digitization of education.
The education sector of Botswana is ready for significant amounts of development and modernization. The launch event for the second phase of digitization was welcomed by the people of Botswana.
The education stakeholders of Selebi Phikwe have shared that the Minstry’s efforts will help in improving access to modern education in Botswana. The government wants to make sure that the elements of ICT are included in the curriculum of the students.
Botswana acknowledges that the world is changing quickly. The administration wants to make sure that the students are ready for the digital future that awaits them.
Minister Douglas Letsholathebe made several important announcements during this event. He announced that the government will distribute 15,410 laptops to teachers and lecturers.
The initiative will be extended to all Junior Secondary schools, Technical and Vocational Training Institutions and Health Sciences Institutions. The provision of laptops will help in ensuring that the teachers are equipped to help students.
The minister believes that the world is becoming increasingly interconnected. Accordingly, it is important for the teachers to have all the tools they need to support their students.
The Minister Douglas Letsholathebe said that the government of Botswana wants to transform the education sector. They want to ensure that teaching and learning can meet the standards needed by the 21st century student.
The school digitization project is being implemented in three phases. Two of these phases have been launched and are in progress.
Meanwhile, the final phase of the project will be dedicated to the primary schools. The officials have shared that they will provide digital learning gadgets to primary schools. They will also provide ICT labs for use by Pre-school and lower primary learners.
This will be the final phase for the digitization of the education sector of Botswana.
