Botswana: The Vice president of Botswana, Slumber Tsogwane announced the demise of the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Dumezweni Meshack Mthimkhulu. The Minister was confirmed dead on September 2.
The officials have shared that Minister Mthimkhulu breathed his last at Sedilega Hospital in Gaborone. The vice president highlighted that the Minister had been hospitalised for some time to receive clinical care.
The late Mthimkhulu was described as a passionate, courageous and gutsy man by the government of Botswana. The officials have shared that Minister Mthimkhulu was a lawyer by training and an attorney of the High Court.
He became the Member of Parliament for Gaborone South Constituency following his electoral victory in the 2019 General Elections. Subsequently, he was appointed by the President Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi to serve as the Assistant Minister for State President.
According to the acting President of Botswana, he held this position efficiently and effectively. He was further redeployed as a Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism in February 2024.
The Vice President profoundly appreciated the dedicated service and contribution that the Minister made to the Republic of Botswana. He said that the Minister has played several roles during his life.
The Vice President of the country has extended his condolences and support to the grieving families on behalf of the President Dr Masisi and his family. He also extended condolences and on behalf of his own family and himself.
The Vice President said that all the members of the community Government of Botswana, Cabinet, Parliament are grief-stricken. “I solemnly send prayers to the late Mthimkhulu’s family, relatives and friends, wishing them the comfort from Almighty God during this difficult time of their loss.” Said the Vice President of Botswana.
The officials have announced that the members of the community will host memorial prayers and services in honor of the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Dumezweni Meshack Mthimkhulu.
