Botswana: Following the call to a forum by the Minister to Ministry Executives (11 October 2023), (19 October 2023), Thomas Kagiso Mmusi met the Mindset Change Campaign Team.
The Ministry Mindset Change Campaign Team members were nominated from the Ministry Headquarters and Ministry Departments. The Team was nominated and tasked to take this Ministry to Vision 2036.
As capable men and women, they were reminded by the Coordinator of the Drug Enforcement Agency, Pearl N. Ramokoka, that they were on a journey to participate and contribute to taking Botswana from a low-income to a high-income country.
She emphasised that it is all about Mindset Change, and the Team should come up with a practical way to ensure that Batswana changes.
During the meet and greet session, the Minister welcomed the Team and informed them that he expects the Team to pop one voice as Ministry of Defence and Security. He did appreciate the Ministry Executive for their support as the forty (40) Officers have been nominated and were ready to kickstart the MDS Mindset Change Campaign. The launch of the campaign will be on 31 October 2023.
The Minister said, “It is us who can only change the country, and we are capable of change as much as we are a team. It is us who bring safety and comfort to Botswana”.
How will Team MDS bring change to Botswana? Minister Mmusi said that Team MDS provides safety and security, and with that, this attracts investors to our country. We can also change the minds of ordinary citizens and the minds of the people whom we serve, said Minister.
Minister Mmusi acknowledged that the Team was with diverse officers, in this case, the Team has to meet regularly, ensure commitment, have measurable plans, and participate and contribute to the Team because it is their role as Team MDS to transform the nation.
“I want to see you in the face of Batswana, reach them wherever they are…..” said Minister Mmusi.
During the reflection time, Sergeant Jacob M. Maitse reflected on the Minister’s address on behalf of the Team. He assured the Minister that the Team was capable, and during the Minister’s address, the Team was conceptualising and they were ready to hit the ground running. He turned to his colleagues and alluded that “One has to change before they preach to others when they have not changed!”.
He said. “… re chenchile Sir…”, and “… we can achieve all other Government priorities if we have changed our mindset”. The Team will focus on Vision 2036 Pillar 4; ‘Governance, Peace and Security’.
