Botswana: The Botswana Police Service (BPS) hosted an ‘Adopt a Police Station’ initiative Gala Dinner on Thursday. The adopt a police station initiative is a way for the security sector of the nation to get the support of the business community.
The Botswana Police Service has been calling on the businessmen in the country to come forward to assist in the development of the police infrastructure. The members of the organization have shared that the gala dinner aimed to bring Business community and other potential partners together.
The Botswana Police Service urged the community to make pledges as their contribution towards the initiative. The organization called for their assistance in uplifting the look of police infrastructure around the country.
The event was also attended by the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. He was at the time, accompanyinng the First Lady Neo Jane Masisi with other senior government officials.
The business community from various sectors, such as insurance, banking, mining, and Agriculture, pledged their support. The community members adopted over seventy (70) Police Stations across the country, vowing to support the development
President Masisi delivered a brief address at the gala dinner highlighting the aim of the ‘Adopt-a-Police Station’ initiative. He said it demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Botswana Police Service to continue to strengthen the effectiveness and impact of public security collaboration.
The Police service wants to do this by the approach of Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives for addressing national issues and problems.
‘’Ladies and Gentlemen, the Botswana Police Service has assembled us here tonight to foster networks and strengthen partnerships, through the introduction of their new initiative, ‘Adopt-a-Police Station’.
“To this end, the organisation is making an impassioned appeal to business entities and other potential partners to volunteer their much-needed support to uplift the ambiance of our police infrastructure.”
The President asserted that they are asking for assistance particularly for the renovation of community service centres and ablutions at most of our police stations to make them more user-friendly. Your contribution in this regard is, therefore, critical towards promoting the delivery of professional and world-class policing services.
