Botswana: The President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, will undertake an official visit to attend the 43rd Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on 17th August 2023 in the Republic of Angola, Luanda.
Key highlights of the Ordinary Summit will include hand over of the SADC Chairmanship by His Excellency Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to His Excellency João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola. His Excellency, Dr Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, will hand over the Chairmanship of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to His Excellency Hakainde Hichelema, President of the Republic of Zambia.
Among others, the Summit will also consider issues of strategic importance to the region and regional integration including: Overview of the Regional Economy, a Report on Peace and Security in the Region; Transformation of the SADC Parliamentary Forum into a Parliament; Finance and Investment situation; Update on the Regional Food and Nutrition Security; Progress on implementation of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030; and consideration of Legal Instruments for signing by Heads of State and Government.
The Summit will be preceded by the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Ministerial Committee of the Organ and Standing Committee of Senior Officials from 8th to 16th August 2023.
His Excellency will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Finance, Honourable Peggy O. Serame, Minister of Defence, Honourable Kagiso Mmusi, and Minister of Trade and Industry, Honourable Mmusi Kgafela and Senior Government officials.
