Botswana: Yesterday marked a very important milestone in the Botswana Prison Service as it committed to enhancing its services to Botswana through safe custodial care, offender rehabilitation and reintegration.
This morning Commissioner of Prisons, Commissioner Dinah Marathe, signed her Performance Agreement with the Minister of Defence and Security, Thomas Kagiso Mmusi, detailing commitments for the financial year 2023/2024.
Some of the agreements that the Commissioner signed with the Minister include but are not limited to:
– Improvement of employee morale
– Deliver the Five National Priorities (Reset Agenda)
– Improvement and delivery of Prisoner Administration & Rehabilitation Services
– Improvement and Delivery of Reintegration Services
– Improving Budget Management
– Improvement and delivery of Operations and Security Services
– Stakeholder engagements
– Improvement of Gov-online services
– Improvement of 2023/24 Project Implementation.
In order to achieve the above, the Service will continue with the implementation of the Commissioner’s Roadmap while focusing on the motto – ‘Building a High Performance Culture: Repositioning, Realigning and Re-engineering the Prison Service to achieve its mandate.’
It is through this motto that the Service commits to increasing efforts and interventions to achieve more with less while playing a significant role in the criminal justice cycle by providing safe custodial care, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders as the mandate suggests.
The Service shall also remain committed to contributing to the country’s food basket. Initiatives such as the Offender Reintegration Programme and the Prison Food Security Strategy will encourage and inspire the country’s entrepreneurial spirit, empower the nation and ultimately contribute to a self-sufficient and crime free Botswana, as outlined in the National Vision 2036.
In its aspiration to be a model institution of correctional excellence, the Prison Service drive its mandate while aligning with the Government standards, processes and procedures.
Botswana residents are happy with the initiative of the Botswana Prison Service and say, “It’s a great initiative, and keep doing the great job, mam.”
