Botswana: The Botswana Red Cross Society is hosting a three-day Disaster Risk Management Symposium for the people of the country. The event is being hosted under the theme under the theme “Promoting Innovation, Integration and Collaboration in Local, National and Regional Disaster Risk Management.”
For the execution of the event, the Botswana Red Cross Society entered into a collaboration with the Netherlands Red Cross Society. The organizers were further being assisted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The aim of the three-day initiative is to educate the various sections of the country on risk management. The participating agencies included the various Government Departments, Parastatals, Agencies and Southern Africa National Societies.
The participants will be delivering the presentations and hold several discussions targeting community resilience. The initiative will serve as an opportunity to research on issues of Disaster Risk Management.
The event was kickstarted from March 25 to March 27 at Travelodge in Gaborone. The event was launched by the Director of the National Disaster Management Office Botswana, Moagi Baleseng. At the launch event, Baleseng appreciated the role that the Botswana Red Cross Society Plays in Disaster Management.
Baleseng claimed that the event marks a significant milestone in the collective efforts to strengthen collaboration in Disaster Risk management. The Botswana Red Cross Society has been working with various local and international agencies to help in disaster management.
Further, the Director of the National Disaster Management Office of Botswana tasked the people of Botswana to work together to build a climate-resilient economy. Finally, he said the government understands the role of Global Warming and Climate change in natural disasters.
The administration is committed to working towards disaster risk reduction and building Resilience at the National and Regional Levels.
According to the organization, the symposium represents a significant stride in the collective efforts of key stakeholders.
The aim of the event is to encourage stakeholders to come together in addressing the escalating challenges posed by natural disasters and climate change.
