Botswana: The authorities of the Tonota District have officially launched the logo of the council. The launch event was hosted on Friday December 29 during the chairman’s ball. The chairman of the district council launched the official logo during the end of year chairperson’s ball.
The district council shared some images from the event on their official social media handles. The officials claimed that the attendants were extremely excited to participate in the launch event. Among the attendants at the “illustrious event” were:
- The Permanent Secretary to the President, Emma Peloetletse
- Councillors of the various wards of the Tonota District
- Prominent members of the business community along with various other esteemed guests.
According to the present guests, the official launch of the logo marked a momentous occasion for the District Council. The event symbolized a new chapter of growth and development.
The chairperson of the district council took the opportunity to impart deeper understanding of the logo to the guests. He explained every aspect of the logo and their symbolism connecting to the district.
The people of the district have also appreciated the unique and beautiful logo of the district council. According to the authorities, All the features in the logo were selected in consultation with the community from all the 15 villages of the district.
The most features suggested were:
-Phane: Mophane Worm
-Letamo. (Dam)
-Kgomo (Cow Head)
-Noka ya Shashe (Shashe River)
The elements that were chosen to incorporate into the logo were extremely significant to the district.
The district has shared the meanings for every element that was included in the logo.
Logo Element: Cow Head
Meaning: This symbol represents livestock farming. predominantly cattle farming that exists in Tonota and surrounding areas
Logo Element: Sorghum
Meaning: Symbolizes seasonal crop production that exists in the District which is done at both Subsistence and Commercial levels.
Mabele (Lebelebele) is also a staple food in the area.
Logo Element: Mophane Worm
Meanwhile: Depicts the seasonal existence of Phane that is brought about by the abundance of mophane tree in the area.
Logo Element: Dam
Meaning: Represents Shashe Dam
Logo Element: Sky Blue Waves
-SKY BLUE-Water Symbolize the existence of water streams and rivers particularly or mainly Shashe river
