Botswana: Two residents of Botswana, Wabuya Onalenna, aged 26, and Serekiso Tefo, 23, from Botshabelo ward and Boseja ward, appeared in Maun Magistrate Court on Tuesday in a case of Robbery.

As per the court charge sheet, Botswana Police Service arrested them for a common purpose and, without claim of right, robbed Security Services Cash-In-Transit vehicle of cash amounting to over P139,000.00 belonging to Trident Cash and Carry at New Mall in Maun on 11 January 2023. The money was to be deposited at a local bank.

The Botswana police have since recovered a pepper spray gun and cash amounting to over P135,000.00 from the accused persons, believed to be the proceeds of the crime.

As per the Tuesday Court order, the accused persons are remanded in Prison and will appear again on 30 January in Court in Maun. Moreover, the Police investigations are still continuing.

Residents are also praising Botswana Police for their work and opposing robbers for their Robbery. Some people are trying to give life lessons to the robbers as one resident suggested that they should earn it with hard work as this money will not support them in their whole life.

The person said, “You can never be successful with money heist in Botswana. Big up, Botswana Police, continue with the good work.”

Moreover, robberies became very common in 2024, especially after the festive season.

Last week, Botswana police charged a 23-year-old man for robbing Jakoba and violence to retain his blue Honda fit car valued at P40 000.

Sub-inspector Maureen Segokgo of Botswana Police told the court that investigations were still ongoing and he killed a man last year, and a post-mortem report had not yet been released.

She further stated that they were still following leads that may lead them to exhibits. Segoko told the court that the accused should remain in custody as investigations were ongoing and that the court should grant them ample time to conclude investigations.
