Botswana: The Commissioner of Police in the Botswana Botswana Police Service Dinah Marathe paid a visit to the former Commissioner Simon Hirschfeld. The former commissioner of police is a highly respected officer of the law and has helped shape the history of BPS.
The meeting was organized on Wednesday, with the members of the police service accompanying the Commissioner of Police.
The Commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe highlighted that Hirschfeld became the first Motswana Police Commissioner during the localisation of posts by the then Botswana government. He had led the Botswana Police Service (BPS) from 1971-1995 afterwards, handed the reigns of the organization to his successor Norman Seduma Moleboge (1995-2004).
Starting from the inception of the Botswana Botswana Police Service Commissioner Marathe is the sixth Commissioner of Police for BPS. Her predecessors from three to five were:Edwin Batshu (2004-2007), Thebeyame Tsimako (2007-2012) and Keabetswe Makgophe (2012-2023)
The visit was planned and executed in light of the fact that the former Commissioner had not been enjoying good health recently. During their conversation, Commissioner Marathe expressed her respect for her predecessors who have forged a positive route for BPS, building it to the brand that it is today.
She appreciated Mr Hirschfeld for his visionary leadership that had seen the organisation grow in leaps and bounds.
On the other hand, former and first Commissioner of Botswana Police Service Hirschfeld thanked Commissioner Marathe for the gesture, stating that it was humbling to see that the organisation appreciated their contribution. He commended his successors for the transformation of BPS, noting with pride the strides made over the years.
The Botswana Police Service is one of the best Police Services in the region. The local, international and regional authorities have applauded the BPS and their leadership for their services.
