Zimbabwe: Strong winds and rains have damaged the building and streets in Harare on Saturday, April 06, 2024 in afternoon. Due to those strong winds and rainfall, a building got collapsed at the corner of Chinhoyi Street and Banks.
Reportedly, the collapsed building has killed a woman and injured five other people. The property was completely damaged, as per the narration submitted by the Manager of the building to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The manager of the mall Themba Dhlamini explained to the Zimbabwe police that the owner of the building Ibrahim Kassim collapsed in England after hearing about the incident.
As per the sources, the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Three vehicles which were parked near the building also got damaged due to bad weather.
Dhlamini also stated that the Strong winds pushed the banner, which was on the top of the building, and was one of the reasons why the lintel and the balcony collapsed.

Considering the case, the National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of ZRP – Paul Nyathi, has confirmed regarding the matter that the police are investigating it and other search authorities are also involved in this.
Assistant Commissioner added to his statement that the damaged property’s value is much worth more than we think, so it is to be established yet.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still conducting the investigation in relation with the relevant authorities that included the National Social Security Authority to ascertain the cause of the tragedy.
The Assistant Commisioner and spokesperson of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Paul Nyathi has also identified the injured people in the incident; who are Kudzaishe Mafauna aged 20 from Ushwekunze, Harare; Wadzanai Baurani from Waterfalls, Harare; Trywell Leadmore from Adlean, Westgate, Harare; Brendon Madono from Unit K, Chitungziwa and Conilias Chiwaka aged 41 from Ruwa.
Following the incident, a well-known filmmaker and journalist, Hopewell Chino’ono, attributed and commented on the situation and said that the incident was harmful to the country’s comatose economy.
Hopewell Chino’ono shared his statement on ‘X’ that, “The collapse of the Zimbabwean economy has brought down the standards that were expected for city due to corrupt rule and incompetence.”
