Dominica: The groundbreaking ceremony for the Cabrits Marina was hosted at the Bell Hall in Portsmouth on Saturday. The Prime Minister of the commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit along with the Minister of Tourism, Denise Charles were present at the event.

He asserted that Cabrits Marina is a highly ambitious and transformative project of the country. Calling the project a dream, PM Skerrit highlighted that the dream takes shape as they break ground for the project and start the construction.

PM Skerrit highlighted that the groundbreaking of the Cabrits Marina was one of the most anticipated event for the people. They had been looking forward to the construction as it would increase the tourism capacity of the nation.

The Prime Minister said that they wanted to take advantage of the breathtaking view of the Portsmouth community. He highlighted that the project will boost the economy of the nation and bring prosperity to Dominica.

As per the details shared by the Prime Minister, Cabrits Marina in Portsmouth will accommodate a large variety of vessels. The port will be able to accommodate the ships docked to slips of up to 50ft and berths for superyachts up to 150ft.

The Prime Minister called the construction of the Cabrits Marina a shining example of sustainable development. Additionally, he highlighted that that after completion, the marina will become the turning point for the community.

The government of Dominica has been taking up the project with the mandate of sustainability in mind. The PM asserted that the consideration of the environment is also extremely important for the administration.

“We are always seeking to strike the right balance between development and conservation.” Said PM Roosevelt Skerrit. According to him, the Marina project will not be managed any differently.

He highlighted that with the development of the Marina, the town of Portsmouth will transform and it will be a turning point got the community.

The Portsmouth community has a new American Canadian School of Medicine and the Intercontinental Hotel and Spa. With these new developments, the town has been scaling towards development. Meanwhile, the construction of the Marina will also transform the town even further.

The construction of the new Cabrits will benefit the entire country. PM Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted the potential of the Portsmouth Community claiming that they are always brimming with potential.

At its core, super yacht Marina Basin consists of more than 50,000 square meters.  Further, the marina will have slips for 100 Yachts these include three slips for Yachts up to 115 ft and three slips for Yachts up to 150 ft.

Accordingly, the largest yachts in the world will be able to dock in the Cabrits Marina. Dr Skerrit highlighted the cost of the project which is going into construction shortly. According to him, the marina will cost in the region of about $201 million for US $75 million

The construction of the Cabrits Marina will boost the numbers of local businesses in the community. The Prime Minister is also hopeful that the Marina will boost the arrivals of tourists in the community.

Currently, currently witnesses a total of approximately 2000 yacht arrivals per year. These yachts bring  between 7000 to 9000 passengers to the shores of the island nation. With the construction of the marina and a new organized port of entry into Portsmouth, the number is likely to increase.
