The City of Cape Town has resumed its major project to rehabilitate and revitalise the Table View beachfront, as one of the city’s prime tourist attractions along the Atlantic coastline. As part of the project recovery plan of the city, construction work on the new walkway, parking areas and infrastructure refurbishment has been officially recommenced.
Reportedly, the city is committed to enhance the popular public space and can assure the residents that the project is now moving forward with a renewed focus to ensure the timely completion.
Considering this, Deputy Mayor and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Spatial Planning and Environment – Alderman Eddie Andrews said that he is excited to hear that this is vital and much anticipated upgrade project, which is moving forward again. With this project they aim to enhance the natural assets of the area, its public amenities and coastal infrastructure to cater to the thousands who use and enjoy this beautiful space.
Deputy Mayor Andrews thanked the local residents, businesses in the surrounding areas and visitors for their patience and support. They understand the frustration caused by the delays. With reliable contractors now in place and clear established timeliness, they are confident that the project is firmly back on track to completion.
Although, the public should begin to see significant progress on the various sites this month. The work will be visible and every effort is being made to complete the work efficiently. As the continued understanding is valued as they work to deliver a revitalised space that will benefit the entire community.
While the construction progresses, the public will still have access to the beach. However, the areas under construction will be closed off for safety, with the necessary pedestrian or vehicle traffic diversions that were implemented.
The project will be carried out in phases to minimise the disruption, as efforts were made to reduce the impact on residents and visitors as much as possible. The public has been reminded to keep dogs on a lead, to adhere to the signage on site and to access the beach via designated access pathways.
Furthermore, the Table View beachfront offers a stunning view of Table Mountain and is a beloved destination for both kite surfers and beachgoers alike. Its popularity among locals and visitors makes it one of the most frequented spots on the coast. This ongoing upgradation project spans 3km stretch of the coastline from Dolphin Beach in the south to Bokkomsbaai in the north.
