Cape Town: The expos lighted the way to future careers. More than 1200 learners attended two careers’ expos recently, which was hosted by the Community, Arts & Culture Development Department of the City of Cape Town.
Reportedly, the expos created awareness of careers and opportunities that are available to learners and will also provide an opportunity to interact with the industry professionals.
The very first expo took place in January in Atlantis, where they recorded 300 learners who were present there to attend from the Atlantis and Robinvale high schools.

Although, the more recent one recorded was at the end of February, then nearly a thousand of learners from eight high schools were welcomed. In total 952 learners came there.
Out of the eight schools who were present there and attended the career day expo at the Belhar Indoor Sports Complex, were:
- Kuils River Technical
- Mfuleni
- Nomzamo
- Tuscany Glen
- Masiyile
- Macassar
- Gordon
- and, Bardale
As per the sources, the exhibitors at the expos included a number of tertiary institutions, companies and city directorates included the various departments from the Safety and Security Directorate.
Moreover, the Career Expos aims at capacitating and empowering youth by exposing them to various career and business opportunities.

Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham said that the career expos are important as high school students, or for anyone unsure of which career to pursue, can learn about potential jobs, can plan their future and network with professionals.
According to Higham it can also open the door to a profession which was not previously considered. At the same time, they can find information on how to progress the journey of the path they have chosen. Such as what certain jobs entail, whether it matches their expectations and employment opportunities.
Notably, the next career expo will take place at the Retreat Civic Centre on April 23 and 24, 2025, following the successful event of this time.
