Cape Town Carnival 2025 observed an official media launch of this year’s theme. The Thursday event unveiled WowZA! theme to celebrate 15 years of the glamour and magic of the best city in the world.
WowZA! will celebrate the glamour and magic of Cape Town, blended with imagination, creativity and the South African spirit. Cape Town Carnival 2025 will turn up the joy, laughter and fun with a touch of glamour, all wrapped in the wonder of the Mother City Magic.
This year, each float and group of performers will showcase the magic of the city Cape Town along with its culture and vibrant energy.
The Media Launch event held on Thursday, Jan 16, 2025 observed a huge gathering. Executive Mayor of the City of Cape Town – Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said at the event that it is so important for residents to get out into shared spaces, celebrate art, dance and performances by the artists.
As per Hill-Lewis this has become a mainstay of Cape Town event calendar, which is incredible as now they are celebrating the 15th anniversary of the CT Carnival. “It is a confirmation of how integral it has become in the city’s culture. Congratulations on reaching this milestone. I’m sure it’s going to be another wonderful celebration,” added the city Mayor.
Chairperson – Prof. Rachel Jafta announced the theme of this year’s carnival and said that when people attend the Cape Town Carnival they gasp what South Africa can be. Everyone here comes together to have fun and tell or create stories through different formats such as dance, music, performances, art and beautiful costumes.
For Jafta, what is worth celebrating is, a moment that makes one say ‘Wow, South Africa’, and this is where the theme of WowZA! originated from.
She acknowledged CEO – Jay Douwes and said that the Cape Town Carnival represents an opportunity to connect people’s beliefs. She encouraged everyone to come and experience the celebration of community-based creativity and culture. For Chairman Rachel Jafta, the carnival is the most life-affirming event of the year.
Jafta added that alongside hundreds of the talented local performers and artists that have come to define the Cape Town Carnival, there will be various new faces parading down the Fan Walk in 2025.
For the very first time in the Carnival’s 15-year history, the DHL Stormers will bring their electric energy to the Cape Town Carnival as they take on the fan walk on their dedicated ‘Taking the Cape by Storm’ float.
Considering this, Captain of the DHL Stormers – Salmaan Moerat said that they are really excited about getting involved in the carnival as it aligns with their mission of making Cape Town smile.
Everyone is invited to Green Point Fan Walk on March 15, 2025 for an unforgettable experience with 50 groups, considering more than 1500 performers and a vibrant showcase of Cape Town’s community, culture and creativity at WowZA!
