Cape Town: The Lekker Kaapstaad Karnaval has shown great combination of entertainment, enriched culture, along with the community spirit and celebration for all ages, every year.
The carnival has displayed mind blowing creativity and talent since its beginning on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Many glimpses and snippets of the event have been shared through a page which is dedicated only to the Cape Town Carnival.
It was a first-class night at the Cape Town Carnival held in Green Point. The Carnival also hit the Schweet Spot as thousands of the visitors and locals have joined together on Green Point’s Fan Walk and presented spectacular dance and music performances emitting the unique charm of the Mother City.
The Cape Town Carnival officials brought the city streets alive and its spirit to life. The officials have taken out the time to thank Carnivalista Family that was a huge support in organising the Carnival.
The supporters of the Cape Town Carnival were City of Cape Town, Multi-Choice Group, Department of Arts and Culture, Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, DStv, Kfm 94.5, Western Cape Governmnet Cultural Affairs and Sport, Southern Sun, Discover Cape Town and Western Cape, People’s Post, Tyger Burger, City Vision Live, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, city Sightseeing South Africa and Okushal Dri.
The Cape Town Carnival officially began with a burst of cold sparkles and some words from the opening party that consisted of Chairperson of the Cape Town Carnival Trust – Eddie Andrews and Deputy Mayor of Cape Town – Professor Rachel Jafta, Director of Performing Arts at the national Department of Sports, Arts and Culture – Nontutuzelo Sekhabi and CEO of the Cape Town Carnival – Jay Douwes.
They all were presented by KFM presenter Carl Wastie who added his brand of special Lekkerness to the proceedings.
“The selected theme for 2024 Cape Town Carnival was Lekker, which is a way of being and a feeling we want to share. Coupled with nostalgia and fantasy to bring you a fabulous parade. When I look at the spectators and performers it just shows how much creativity, gees and goodwill we have in Cape Town,” said Professor Rachel Jafta, Chairperson of the Cape Town Carnival.
The parade originally offered the visitors a taste of the colourful cultural melting pot of South Africa. The Cape Town Carnival has celebrated an amazing day and night of festivities that has a profound social and economic impact.
Considering this, the Deputy Mayor of Cape Town – Eddie Andrews said that the events like this help us to showcase all that Cape Town has to offer to a global audience.
“When visitors come for the event, they stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants and support the local vendors. This event is important to Cape Town as our tourism strategy focuses on ensuring the opportunity for employment in every single household in the city,” said Eddie Andrews.
The Carnival Villages known as the Party Starters has created an incredible atmosphere in the carnival villages this year in 2023. The vendors pulled out all the stops with an amazing array of quality local food and supplies.
The Carnival also performed live acts that set the vibe for the day. The families enjoyed the enthusiasm to set the tone for the parade and many kids have shared the pictures of the acts who floated around to meet and greet the audience.
As the parade ended, a huge crowd has gathered to enjoy the DJ and loved all the stories, especially a love story between plants and birds. The story designs a plot of a land where the Feather King and Fynbos Queens oversee a beautiful sensory symphony of fragrance and melody.
The Majestic feathers and mesmerizing blossoms create a realm of unparalleled beauty. The story was performed by incredible groups such as Jhoomkar, Eoan Crew, Rainbow Academy and Portuguese Community.
The story was acted by the lead performers, Thomas Petersen, Charisma Erasmus, Chevonne Hendricks, Unathi Makhambi, Okhule Lingani and Mukendi Makolo.
