Cape Town: The City of Cape Town is hosting Energy Efficiency Schools Programme (EESP) Play and Workshop events with schools across the metro to empower learners to make smart energy decisions. The workshops will take place at high schools across the city as part of the Cape Town Future Energy Festival that kicked off on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Rhodes High School in Mowbray.
Reportedly, the schools are encouraged to contact them if they are interested in participating. The competition and prize giving ceremony will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Energy – Alderman Xanthea Limberg stated that six slots are available for schools to participate and they are encouraged to apply. Teaching the youth about energy efficiency and renewable energy is crucial.
According to Limberg, they have significant power to begin more sustainable practices within their schools, homes and communities. They are able to influence those around them. They can ensure that all the residents are included in the solutions and play a role in the collective energy future; as by visiting various schools and communities throughout the Cape Town.
These events are part of the Cape Town Future Energy Festival, which is a city-wide movement to equip residents with the information to make better energy choices. By providing residents with knowledge, practical tools and inspiring experiences, the festival is helping households. While creating awareness about the changing energy landscape and climate impacts.

The Building Centre Exhibition in Ysterplaat is open to the public Monday to Friday from 09:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m. but the expert guides will be there to take you through the exhibit and answer your questions on the following days on May 30, 2026 from 09:00 a.m. – 02:00 p.m. and on June 06, 2026 from 09:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m.

Let’s ACT: Live Smart Programme
The Let’s ACT: Live Smart Programme prepares Cape Town seniors to stay safe, healthy and energy-efficient during the summer heat. Through interactive workshops, participants will learn practical tips to reduce electricity use, cook safely, and keep food at the right temperature using smart cookers and cooler bags.
This programme is run through a partnership between the Sustainable Energy Markets, Environmental Management, Risk and Resilience and Library and Information Services departments.
