Cape Town: The Facilities Management Department of the City of Cape Town hosted the Smart and Future Facilities Management Symposium on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The symposium brought together the industry leaders and experts to discuss innovative developments. It shared insights and showcased transformative solutions that will shape how facilities within the private and public sector are managed.
The symposium also featured an impressive line-up of keynote speakers, including the Founder of WorkplaceFundi – Andrew Mason and Chief Technology Officer for Public Services at Huawei – Augustine Chiew. Their expertise provided invaluable perspectives on workplace optimisation and digital transformation in public services.
Furthermore, industry professionals engaged in dynamic panel discussions and specialised breakaway sessions, which covered topics from smart building technologies to resilient urban infrastructure. Various walking tours at the Civic Centre also showcased innovative facility management practices at the City of Cape Town facility.

Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services – Alderman Theresa Uys said that the City of Cape Town aims with the Smart and Future Facilities Management Symposium to provide a platform for the City and industry experts to have transformative discussions that will define the next era of facilities management in the public and private sector.
Today, they have heard from various industry leaders on how their innovative practices have successfully been implemented in the built environment to promote the scrutiny at facilities for example as well as workplace optimisation.
Alderman Uys cleared further that the City of Cape Town is committed to service excellence and innovation in its municipal operations and robust discussions that have most definitely provided them with key insights on ways to further promote sustainability and efficiency in public infrastructure. Their role is to now ensure that these insights translate into real-world impact for the communities.
