Cape Town: The Fire and Rescue Service of the City of Cape Town is ready to commemorate the International Firefighters’ Day, on May 04, 2025. The celebrations will be held at Erica Park in Belhar and the public is invited too.
City firefighters have turned up the heat for the celebrations. The International Firefighters’ Day is observed to honour the firefighters for their service and specially to remember those who lost their lives.
On Sunday, May 04 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the visitors are able to interact with staff and get a closer look at the fire vehicles. They are also looking upto the aerial support craft, get dressed up in fire gear and see first-hand how vehicle extrication and other complex firefighting duties are undertaken. Even that have a crack at some of the fitness challenge tasks.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that they will officially open the proceedings at 10:00 a.m. He added that the only interaction residents have with the firefighters is during time of crisis, when they are on the fire line saving lives and property.
International Firefighters’ Day provides an opportunity to pay homage to the brave men and women, and also gives the general public a chance to see up close what it takes to put on the uniform.
Notably, the Fire and Rescue Services of the City of Cape Town has responded to 20,349 incidents happened in the past seven months, which is a slight increase in comparison to the corresponding time of the previous year.
However, this equates to an average of more than 100 incidents daily. The firefighters are exceptional and dedicated, as they make the job look easy. Join in tipping the hats to their service, also come and find out why they have the right stuff.
The Sunday event us free of charge and will begin with a cavalcade of firefighting vehicles starting at 9:00 a.m. from the Belhar Fire Station to Erica Park.
