Cape Town: The Human Settlements Directorate of the City of Cape Town celebrated a major milestone as new homes were handed over in Bonteheuwel. 270 homeowners were honoured with new homes under the Bonteheuwel Infill Housing Project.
The Human Settlements Directorate has proudly granted over 230 homes to the Bonteheuwel beneficiaries of the City of Cape Town. This marked a significant achievement as one of the most meaningful and community centred housing projects.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements – Councillor Carl Pophaim said that this is a long-anticipated moment for many residents, and they are honoured to assist so many families with a housing opportunity under the Bonteheuwel Infill Housing Project.
The R140 million Bonteheuwel Infill Housing Project provides Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes to families and several homes that are designed to accommodate elderly residents and people with disabilities. Till date, 273 housing opportunities are completed, with 270 opportunities handed over to beneficiaries.
The Bonteheuwel Infill Housing Project is just one of the several housing projects that are currently under way across the metro, and they continue to accelerate the delivery to provide opportunities for residents.
This celebration makes it more meaningful as a reminder of what is possible when communities and all stakeholders work together. They congratulated every new homeowner, and they look forward to many more joyous handovers across the metro.
Notably, beneficiaries of City Housing projects are selected in accordance with the Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register of the City of Cape Town. This ensure that the housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transplant manner that prevents queue jumping and those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
Earlier, the City of Cape Town has granted many houses to the residents of several constituencies. The programmes follows the big project of honouring Title Deeds to the beneficiaries and making them home owners.
