Cape Town: The Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Cape Town is amending community swimming pool operational hours to accommodate the school holidays as the summer season winds down. The public is also advised to keep drowning prevention measures top of mind at all times and follow the newly introduced Beaches Lifeguard Schedule.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham said that they encourage residents and especially learners to make use of the recreational facilities by the city during the school holidays.
Francine Higham stated that it is important for parents and guardians to always know and keep updated with the whereabouts of children and ensure that they are closely supervised and protected, especially around water bodies. The lifeguards of the City of Cape Town play an important role in ensuring a safe beach and pool environment and they would like to request beachgoers to please adhere to the rules to help in lighten the load.

The Department of Recreation and Parks has released guidelines to abide by the Cape Town, that are as follows:
- The first and foremost is to always swim on a beach with lifeguards on duty and between their red and yellow flags.
- Following this, the visitors should also take care of their children and should not leave them unsupervised in or around water.
- The visitors should not swim under the influence of alcohol.
- People are advised to beware of rip currents. If they are caught in a current, they are suggested to stay calm and signal for help.
The beach-lifeguards will be on duty and will be available between 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. The public is advised that certain beaches do have a reduced drowning prevention service.
Furthermore, from Monday, March 31, 2025 the community swimming pools will remain open daily until the end of the season. The operating hours will include timings beginning from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the last ticket sold at 5:30 p.m.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on swimming pool operations, they encouraged residents to visit the official website of the City of Cape Town or contact their nearest community facility. For more details the visitors are also advised to see Beaches Lifeguard Schedule.
