Cape Town: Councillor Carl Pophaim has launched the new ‘Housing the City Tour: Bringing You Home’. It is a people centred project that takes services directly to communities. This initiative is all about breaking down the barriers and bringing services closer to the people.
Pophaim, the Human Settlements Councilllor said that he is proud to announce the launch of this new initiative, which kicked off in Atlantis on Sept 04, 2025. They will be heading to many more communities for the coming weeks and months.
He further stated that, after being appointed two years ago, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that they change the face of the Human Settlements Directorate and to revitalise stalled development.
Carl Pophaim wants to take the services directly to every resident where they can access opportunities and make their voices heard.
Furthermore, through this outreach tour, these teams are taking Human Settlements directly to the people, where residents will find the ‘one-stop-shop’ of services all under one roof.
He added that from city affordable housing applications to consumer education, to the rental housing and related services, the residents will be able to speak with the expert officials directly without travelling far, to support, make telephone calls or sending emails.
The project is being supported by the departments within the City of Cape Town which is the result of a collaborative effort to serve the people on their doorsteps.
This newly launched tour will go beyond the City of Cape Town community halls, as they will also be visiting key Human Settlements projects in each community. These will include informal settlements upgrade projects, new Breaking New Ground (BNG) projects, public housing (rental stock) maintenance projects, backyarder service installations and even the title deeds handovers to beneficiaries and their families.
According to Pophaim, by visiting communities, engaging leadership and showcasing the progress, Housing the City Tour will highlight the commitment to improve living conditions and to deliver services where they matter the most, especially the neighbourhoods across the metro.
