Cape Town: Public libraries and recreation facilities across Cape Town will welcome children and young people for a winter school holiday programme. The programme will feature reading, coding, cookie making, sports, indoor games and many other activities beginning from Friday, June 26, 2026.
City libraries and recreation centres are ready for winter school holiday fun, as hundreds of young holiday makers will join the programmes that are designed to keep them entertained and active. The library events include cookie making, coding and reading challenges.
Reportedly, the Recreation and Parks Department’s programme is packed with activities and include sports and indoor games. Along with this, it will take place at recreation facilities, including community centres, sport grounds, play parks, green spaces and other facilities.
However, such programmes give children and young people constructive and safe ways to spend their school break. While making use of City facilities close to home.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham stated that this winter holidays can be a great opportunity to find a new hobby, having fun or learning a new skill.
The libraries and recreation facilities are offering activities that keep young people active during the school break. Higham encouraged parents and caregivers to look at the programme closest to them. They will further help young people in making the most of the holidays.
