Cape Town: The Fire and Rescue Service Department of the City of Cape Town partnered with Shoprite/Checkers and We Act For Change to bring the festive joy for over 120 children at six care facilities around the city. The first handover was observed on Dec 19, 2025 and the rest will be conducted next week.
The Red and Yellow brigade spreads Christmas cheer as the Fire and Rescue Services along with Shoprite/Checkers are lending a helping hand to Santa by delivering gifts and festive treats to six community social welfare organisations.
Reportedly, a fire truck completely loaded with Christmas goodies made its first delivery to the social services organisation – BADISA in Bellville South on Friday, Dec 19, 2025.
Notably, the other Christmas goodies deliveries are taking place next week to:
- United Sanctuary Against Abuse (in Atlantis)
- Yizani Community Drop in Centre (in Woodstock)
- Little Angels (in Somerset West)
- Solomons Haven (in New Woodlands)
- Holiday Children’s Home (in Masiphumelele)
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that this time of year is one of goodwill, sharing and festivities. Also, it’s easy to forget that it is not such a jolly time for many of the residents.
Smith highlighted that the firefighters are known for their bravery and dedication, however delivering gifts shows where their hearts really are and it’s with the communities.
“I commend them for taking the initiative and extending the magic of Christmas to some of our most vulnerable communities,” stated JP Smith.
Also, the Chief Sustainability Officer at the Shoprite Group – Sanjeev Raghubir said that collaborating with the Fire and Rescue Services of the City of Cape Town reflects their continued work to support organisations that work together to uplift lives in the communities every day, and they are delighted to share the joy of the festive season with them and all.
