Cape Town: The Road Infrastructure Management Department of the City of Cape Town will be resurfacing a portion of Voortrekker Road in the Salt River area. The work began on Sept 03, 2025 and will continue till Oct 16, 2025.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility – Councillor Rob Quintas said that the section of Voortrekker Road is to be resurfaced between Riverene Road, at the Salt River Bridge and Beach Road.
According to Quintas, night work is required for resurfacing the project and they can minimise the disruptions to traffic flow and avoid traffic congestion in the area. It is expected that the residents and business owners can expect some noise during this time. They have been asked for their patience and support as the project team try to get the construction work done as early as possible.
Salt River Bridge project opposite to the Salt River Station, ends at the Beach Road intersection with Voortrekker Road. Eastbound and Westbound Carriageway will be resurfaced.
Partial lane closures may be observed at night to facilitate the work. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes where it is possible to minimise the delays.
This resurfacing project forms a part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the road network and to keep Capetonians moving in the City of Cape Town. The city officials appreciated the patience and cooperation of all road users while seeing improvements to the road network, which are under way.
Along with this, Kraaifontein road resurfacing is complete and is ready to use now. Councillor Rob Quintas with Ward Councillor Brenda Hansen and Senior Road Infrastructure Management officials visited to several roads that have been resurfaced in the Kraaifontein area.
Quintas further stated that their focusing areas in Kraaifontein were the resurfacing of Voortrekker Road between Fairfield Road and Van Riebeeck Street, Botfontein Road between Voortrekker Road and Maroela Road and Van Riebeeck Street between Voortrekker Road and Frans Conradie Drive.
Notably, the Urban Mobility team is also repairing and resurfacing these roads. They built a stormwater infrastructure on the west side of Van Riebeeck Street at the intersection of 5th Avenue to raise the bell mouth to prevent regular flooding. All road markings were also reinstated, along with the traffic loops, scoots and magnetometers at intersections.
