The City of Cape Town observed 54th edition of Total Sports Two Oceans Marathon, this weekend. The city officials also advised the residents and spectators on the logistics for the race days.
Over 3K athletes were combined for the Ultra and Half-Marathons as they are expected to hit the streets of Cape Town. The Ultra-Marathon will take runners on a 56km route from Newlands to scenic glory in Muizenberg, St. James, Kalk Bay, the famed Chapman’s Peak and Constantia, before finishing on the foot of Table Mountain at UCT on Saturday, April 05, 2025.
The Half-Marathon will cover 21.1km journey from Newlands through Claremont, Kenilworth, Wynberg and Constantia before finishing off at UCT’s rugby field, that will close out Two Oceans Marathon Week on Sunday, April 06, 2025.
Both the main races will be proceeded by a 5km International Friendship Run and Two Oceans trail runs that took place on Friday, April 04, 2025.

Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that this is a significant week for Cape Town and the South African running community, where they hosted more than 30,000 runners from 89 countries in the beautiful city.
Two Oceans Marathon is a key to Cape Town’s goal of cementing its place as a top destination for runners worldwide. City’s support of the race event is its contribution to platforms providing both professional and recreational runners as an opportunity to express themselves on the open road in one of the world’s most scenic and vibrant running scenes.
Additionally, the Two Oceans Marathon has a substantial economic impact on Cape Town, noting its sporting significance and generating millions of Rand in tourism revenue. Hotels, restaurants and local businesses saw increased traffic during the marathon week, contributing to the reputation of Cape Town as a world-class event destination. They are looking forward to welcome all the athletes to run Cape Town.
The Two Oceans Marathon week will kick off the official opening of the Two Oceans Marathon Expo at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday, April 02, 2025 which will be run for Saturday, April 05, 2025.
More than 100 exhibitors, including Expo is a one-stop shop for runners to pick up their race packs and explore the latest in running gear, tech and equipment, to stock up on race nutrition and get the best advice on navigating their race.
Also, the International Friendship Run returned after its inception since 2019 and will see around 500 visiting athletes that took on a 5km race from the DHL Stadium through Granger Bay, Mouille Point, Sea Point Promenade and Green Point Urban Park, finishing at the stadium.
The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will impact several roads including Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Granger Bay Boulevard and Beach Road, from around 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 04, 2025.
Traffic will flow in the vicinity of the DHL Stadium and may be impacted by the Expo from April 02 to 05, 2025 from 6:00 a.m. until late in the day. For Ultra and Half Marathon, motorists and residents are advised of extensive road closures and restrictions in the Southern Suburbs and the Deep South.
Residents of Cape Town also advised that these City drop-off sites will be closed on Saturday, April 05, 2025 dur to the Two Oceans Marathon, including Kommetjie, Simon’s Town and Hout Bay. Alternative drop-off sites will also consider Wynberg, Woodstock and Retreat.
