Cape Town: The Urban Mobility Directorate of the City of Cape Town traded in hard hats and high-vis gear for glitz and glam at its annual Urban Mobility Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 09, 2025. The ceremony was held at the Civic Centre Banqueting Hall. The event celebrated the achievements of staff and long-standing service excellence across the directorate.
The Urban Mobility Awards Ceremony highlighted the presentation of the 45 Years of Service Award to Granville Adams and Mogamat Yusuf that marks a significant milestone in their careers. In total, 79 staff members were recognised for their 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of dedicated service.
Considering this, the Urban Mobility Executive Director – Dalene Campbell said that they are particularly proud to honour the people who have dedicated 25 to 45 years of service to the city. She further stated that their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in the success.
They are extremely grateful for the years of service and dedication as each of them have given. Also, 85 nominations were submitted for recognition awards across five categories aligned with the City of Cape Town’s core values: accountability, care, openness and transparency, innovation and service excellence.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility – Councillor Rob Quintas said that this is not just a celebration of hard work, but moreover a celebration of heart of resilience, of innovation and of deep commitment to public service.
Quintas said that they have real leaders in the midst, where people who are working together to build the best city in the world and continuously delivering on big and small projects to ensure that they keep Cape Town moving.
According to Rob Quintas, to mention out a few of many that were awarded, they recognised the innovative team that implemented the first-of-its-kind automated reversible bus lane in South Africa. We also recognised the team that installed and trialled the Thermicam AI sensor.
They also had a young project manager – Tashmah Rambali, being awarded with the bronze Service Excellence award amongst three other winners in the category. “How can I forget Johan Fowler and his team for also being awarded with the Caring gold award, as they manage the Metro South East Corridor projects. Johan also received the Mayor’s award in 2024,” added Quintas.
Notably, in total 19 awards were presented and recognised the outstanding efforts of 111 individual nominees. This is a testament to the collaborative and driven culture within the Urban Mobility Directorate of the City of Cape Town.
