Cape Town has released Game Day logistics for Springboks v/s Barbarians. The Springboks are going to play Barbarian FC in the Qatar Airways Cup at DHL Stadium on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Reportedly, the City of Cape Town is rolling out an expanded free Park & Ride service for spectators. A massive turnout is expected to be observed at the DHL Stadium for the historic rugby match. This time, it will be the British-based invitational club’s first-ever tour of South Africa.
The game will mark the start of the five-month international season of the Springboks, which will also include the Castle Lager Incoming Series. The Castle Lager Rugby Championship and the end-of-year tour of Europe.
As per the sources, the Qatar Airways Cup fixture against the Barbarians is the first of two Springbok matches coming to the Mother City this year. The Boks will also host Australia in August as part of the team’s defense of the Rugby Championship.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that they are anticipating more than 40,000 spectators for this game, which will affect the traffic on match day. Further to reducing congestion and helping fans get to the stadium on time, they have worked closely with the event organizer to provide alternatives to single-occupancy vehicles.
Smith expressed that they strongly encourage all spectators to make use of the park-and-ride system, which is a convenient and reliable way to avoid delays and ensure a smooth journey to the venue. The shuttle, with its dedicated lane to the stadium, will ensure that you beat the traffic and get to the stadium smoothly.
The Stadium gates for this Saturday’s game are expected to open at 12:00 noon. The free MyCiTi shuttle service for spectators will ferry matchday ticket holders from Century City, CTICC, Thibault Square and Civic Centre Stations. The first shuttles from all designated Park & Ride sites will depart at 12:00 noon with return services operating until 09:30 p.m.
Considering the Park Ride & Facilities, free parking bays will be available at the Civic Centre to match ticket holders from 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry is accepted via Hertzog Boulevard (incoming) and Civic Road.
The Century City (Steelbridge E-Parking) will accept the limited free parking bays for ticket holders on a first-come, first-served basis. Access via Century Boulevard is also accepted. The area will be monitored by security; however, parking is also available at the owner’s risk. Paid parking is also available at the mall.
CBD On-Street Parking will also be available for free from 1:00 p.m. the paid parking is also available at the Parkalot on Jack Craig Street and at the Harbour Arch on Harbour Arch Boulevard.
From here, the spectators can take a free MyCiTi bus from the Civic Centre. A designated e-hailing drop-off and pick-up area will be located at P13 on Green Point Main Road, between York Road and Wigtown Road.
