Zambia: Cavendish University Zambia has signed a MoU with Justina Mutale Foundation to further expand access to education in the sub region and globally.
Cavendish University Zambia Executive Director, Reginald Rainey said they was excited to collaborate with the Justina Mutale Foundation.
Speaking at the signing of the MOU today in Lusaka, Rainey said that because of the two bodies’ commitment to the development, women leadership is assured in all sectors and industries, especially those from vulnerable populations.
“ This aligns well with Cavendish University Zambia, as we are strong supporters of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and are equally committed to promoting gender equalities” said Mr Rainey.
He added that he was particularly excited about the MoU signing which took place on December 2, 2023. It focuses on four key areas adding that his University is committed to having 5% of its student body awarded scholarships to the Foundation.
He noted that CUZ and the Justina Mutale Foundation will jointly provide opportunities for Zambians wishing to pursue post-graduate STEM-related fields in the USA with bursaries.
“They will have the opportunity to do so through bursaries that cover tuition, room and board, and living allowances. After the completion of studies, they are eligible to be placed in employment in the USA.
“The agreement will also provide CUZ and its students access to the Justina Mutale Foundation’s wide network of influencers and subject matter experts, who will serve as mentors to our students, ” he said.
Meanwhile, Justina Mutale Foundation, director Southern Africa, Manda Moyo said the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signifies a monumental leap toward collaboration, unity, and shared objectives.
“This marks the inception of a partnership where we acknowledge the potent force of combined endeavors in realizing common goals, ” said Ms Moyo.
Moyo said the decision to partner with local universities brings forth a myriad of advantages, including cultural familiarity, cost efficiency, and the invaluable support of families and communities.
