Zambia, Chipata: Chipata City Mayor George Mwanza says the proactiveness exhibited by Chipata District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) simply shows that Chipata District is ready to open Schools on the 12th of February 2024 as guided by the Government.

Mayor Mwanza said the school inspections conducted by Chipata City Council, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education have indicated that Schools in the District are ready for opening.

The Mayor expressed happiness that schools are following the cholera guidelines laid down so that the lives of the learners are protected as they open Schools.

He has since urged parents in the city of Chipata to continue educating their children on the importance of observing cleanliness; he said parents play a vital role in helping children observe the health guidelines in the wake of the Cholera outbreak.

Meanwhile, Chipata District Education Board Secretary Gabriel Chuutu said his Team is working round the clock to see to it that all the schools comply before opening.

Furthermore, Education Board Secretary Chuutu has also called on the schools that have not yet met the guidelines to speed up the process and ensure that the recommended hygiene standards are practised.

The Team led by His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Chipata, also inspected Mpezeni Park and St. Monica’s Girls Secondary School.

Gilbert Phiri, who represented the Head Teacher at St Monica`s, said the school has done everything possible to protect the lives of the learners.

Deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr Reginah Mhaule, MEC of the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga Thandi Shongwe and Deputy Speaker of Mpumalanga Legislature Jeaneth Thabethe- Mofokeng during the Back 2 School Community Outreach at Thembeka Senior Secondary School at Kanyamazane in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. The Outreach started with Flag Hoisting followed by Sporting kits, Books and Dignity Packs donations to the school.
