Chiradzulu Teen under police custody for stabbing teacher

Malawi: Police in Chiradzulu are keeping a 17-year-old boy in  custody on the suspicion that he has stabbed his teacher. The police has clarified that the teenager is in custody for safety as long as the investigation into the matter lasts

The 33 year old victim, who has allegedly been stabbed by the student has been identified as Shadreck Banda.

The victim was a teacher at Goleka Primary School in the district. The student was also accused of and injuring another victim Wilfred Manyamba.

The stabbing incident happened in the early hours of Monday at Walala Village. The Village is situated in the Traditional Authority Likoswe in the Chiradzulu. The victim who was stabbed by the 17 year old student was immediately declared dead by the police force.

The investigation into the stabbing and murder incident has started. Chiradzulu Police Station Public Relations Officer Constable Cosmas Kagulo shared the crucial details regarding the incident in a media statement. According to him, the young man stabbed late Banda and Manyamba with a sharp panga knife.

The stabbing incident happened after the two victims had confronted him on  something that he was carrying earlier that day.

“Late Banda and Manyamba were coming from a funeral vigil within Walala Village when the student confronted him. While the victims were on their way back, they met the teenager when he was carrying a suspicious bag on his head.

The police officer shared that the victims also asked the suspect what he was doing there. Meanwhile, the  victims also kept talking to the victim for sometime longer.

They wanted to talk to the victim for some more time, but the victim left them and ran to his mothers house. After some time, he returned with a knife and stabbed both of them.

“The two victims suffered many injuries due to the stabbing incidents. They were rushed to Chiradzulu District Hospital. At the hosopital, Banda was pronounced dead upon arrival,” Kagulo added.

Banda was a resident of Lungucha Village in Traditional Authority Likoswe while Manyamba comes from Joliji Village in Traditional Authority Mpama, both from Chiradzulu District.

The culprit will be taken to court after investigations into the matter conclude.
