Malawi: Choirs under Blantyre Deanery of the Archdiocese of Blantyre have announced a Christmas Choir Festival. The event is supposed to be hosted on Thursday December 26 at St Montfort Catholic Institute (CI).
Moses Iron, Technical Director for Blantyre Deanery Christmas Choir Festival Organising Committee, announced the festival. He has announced that the preparations for the festival are at an advanced stage.
He said the festival will have several choirs from the Blantyre Deanery participating and celebrating Christmas. The festival will also prove to be an opportunity for choirs to share their music experience and share their views on the deanery choirs’ performance.
The festival is expected to be an important day for the Blantyre Deanery. Many choirs from the deanery will participate on the day.
The topmost three choirs will compete at the Archdiocese level of the festival. The officials have shared that the choir should perform two Christmas songs from a Catholic hymn book; Hymn number 12, Anjero adika and Hymn number 19, Yesu wabadwa lero,” he said.
Each choir will have the opportunity to perform two songs. They will be given a timeline of ten minutes to prove their talent and worth on the stage
He has urged the choirs to ensure that they are prepared for the competition and Blantyre Deanery of the Archdiocese of Blantyre by all the procedures of the festival as 23 choirs are expected to take part in the event.
The Blantyre Deanery of the Archdiocese of Blantyre organizes the Christmas Choir Festival every year, giving an outlet to talented musicians.
In 2023 more than 20 choirs participated in a similar festival when St. Martin Chirimba Catholic Choir emerged winner, St. Mary’s Chemusa were runners up while St. Vincent Mwangata Choir took position three.
In the women’s category, St. Agnes Choir from Chirimba won the competition in the top position, St. Clara from St. Mary’s Chemusa Parish came second as St. Cecelia Choir from St. Montfort CI won third position for the competition.
