Cape Town: The Economic Growth Directorate of the City of Cape Town acknowledges residents and stakeholders who attended the public engagement meeting on Wednesday, Feb 26 2025. It was regarding the proposed redevelopment vision for the King David Mowbray Golf Course (KDMGC) and surrounding vacant land in Pinelands.
The public input is a crucial part of the process as they encourage further participation. Until Monday, Mar 31, 2025, the Cape Town public has to submit comments which will be used to inform the concept development plan.
City of Cape Town introduced a Strategic Vision for Inclusive Urban Growth. It is exploring a long-term vision mainly for the strategically located site that includes the land on which the KDMGC and the Clyde Pinelands Football Club.
Situated between the Settlers Way (N2) to the south and Links Drive to the north, the area presents an opportunity to create a well-integrated as well as sustainable urban precinct that balances development with public benefit.
Moreover, it is a transformative project. The proposal envisions a mixed-use development that could include a range of housing opportunities, involving affordable housing alongside commercial spaces and public amenities.
The approach seeks to support sustainable growth, enhance accessibility to housing near employment hubs and foster an inclusive urban environment.
Reportedly, the project will release an underused public asset tat would enable urban development and will create employment opportunities. Additionally, it will also allow strategic reinvestment into essential services and infrastructure while ensuring that the development aligns with the broader needs of residents of Cape Town.
It has a commitment to public participation and informed decision-making, considering which, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth – Alderman James Vos said that they appreciate the valuable feedback received till now, including the ones received during engagement held on Wednesday night.
The City of Cape Town remained committed to an open and consultative process and encourages all stakeholders to contribute their insights. This meeting was the first of ore engagements that will take place over the lifetime of this proposal.
According to James Vos, currently they are at very early stages of lengthy process and public participation that will play a vital role in shaping the final proposed development concept for the site. Several specialist professional studies are also under way which will help in informing about the proposed concept for the site.
