Cape Town: A huge turnout has been observed for the latest Neighbourhood Watch, collected in mass information session. The Safety and Security Directorate of the City of Cape Town has engaged Neighbourhood Watch (NW) members on numerous pertinent topics during recent mass information session at the Cape Town Civic Centre on Saturday, April 05, 2025.
The sessions are conducted in every few months to keep NWs up to speed on important developments in the community safety environment. More than 250 NW members attended the session and represented 114 NWs throughout the metropole.
Reportedly, the City of Cape Town has developed close ties with Neighbourhood Watches over the past 16 years, through its NW Support Programme. Indeed, the mass information sessions have become part and parcel of the relationship in recent years. Adding up the training, capacitation and collaboration with the sector.

Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith has delivered an address emphasising the importance of active community participation and the role of Neighbourhood Watches in fostering safer communities and assisting the enforcement agencies of the City of Cape Town.
Smith also unpacked EPIC technological investments and the draft budget by the Directorate that is currently out for public comment, talking about attendees through some of the key priorities to enhance the public safety.
As per sources, the event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing stakeholders to engage with the city officials and safety experts on pressing security concerns.
According to JP Smith, this initiative provided an excellent platform to share information and augment as a stronger partnership for safer communities. Neighbourhood Watches are extremely important in preventing crime, as they increase awareness that they all have a role to play in making the communities safer.
Notably, the City of Cape Town will continue to support these community organisations and would like to thank each and every neighbourhood watch member for giving up their valuable time for such a good cause to serve and to protect the city.
