Cape Town: Langa Indoor Sports Centre reopens for the public after a long closure in July 2023 due to roof damage caused by inclement winter weather.
The Recreation and Parks Department of the city Cape Town has announced the reopening of the Langa Indoor Sports Centre on Bhunga Avenue, after a temporary closure for the repairing of the roofs.
As per the sources, the damage was caused during the winter’s last year in 2023 followed by the heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The repair work to the façade, roof sheets and rails from purlins as well as internal and external waterproofing is done and complete now.
Notably, the Recreation and Parks Department facility team looks forward to welcoming users, whether for recreational activities, sporting activities and workouts or for a special event.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health Councillor Patricia van der Ross said that they understand the importance of the facility as a recreational amenity for the community and the teams that have worked diligently to ensure that the sports centre is structurally sound and safe for public use.
Councillor Ross said that they thank and present their gratitude to the community for their patience and support during the period.
The City of Cape Town’s indoor sports centres offer Capetonians the opportunity and facilities to practice their choice of sport all year round, regardless of any weather conditions.
Functions, events and ceremonies such as weddings, birthday parties, year-end functions and corporate meetings are staged here. Various community programmes also take place at this centre on daily basis.
The Langa Indoor Sports Centre remains open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. the entrance is free cost but some extra charges may be taken depending on the activities. The sports centre can hold a maximum of 500 people.
The major features of the sports centre are the hall, ticket office, Indoor Courts, Outdoor Courts and fields. The centre also provides the facilities for the disabled. Indoor Gym and facility hire are some other features the sports centre provides.
A variety of activities can be performed at the Langa Indoor Sports Centre, such as Clubs, Sports Programmes, Indoor Sports, Functions, and events.
