City of Cape Town has bid farewell to a whirlwind November and once again has proved its status as a premier event destination. The summer has just started heating up and the city hosted more than 200 unforgettable events.
Reportedly, the 206 events hosted in Cape Town this November welcomed around 400,000 visitors. The return of Bafana Bafana to the Mother City attracted the biggest crowd with around 53,000 people who attended the midweek game at DHL Stadium for the final Africa Nations Cup qualifier against South Sudan.
Cape Town has something for everyone in November, from the football action to the gravity defying skills of Freestyle Kings, from enduring spirit of the Ultra-Trail Cape Town athletes to the countless markets and festivals.
The city is already brimming with excitement as the Events Permit Office is currently processing more than 160 permit applications for the end month of 2024.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the Cape Town is ready to host 53 more events for the upcoming weekend. This will grow to around 115 heading to the long weekend of Reconciliation Day.
Smith mentioned that the Events Permit Office is working with event organisers and other stakeholders to ensure that they are maintaining the health and safety standards that have brought them this far.
City of Cape Town has proved its capabilities as a major event destination over the years and this summer, the Mother City will put that on display with the diverse line-up of events coming up this season.
“We invite all residents and visitors to explore these events and enjoy what Cape Town has to offer,” added JP Smith.
Furthermore, the last month of 2024 has started off on a bright note with the flagship of City of Cape Town Festive Lights Switch-On setting the tone for the beginning of the joyous season.
Capetonians and visitors welcomed the crowd over 80,000 at the festive season with a line-up of local and national artists including Carletheia, Dr. Victor & the Rasta Rebels, 3 Tons of Fun, Wynand and Cheree Strydom, MORDA and Mafikizolo among others.
The December calendar is filled with an exciting showcase of everything happening in Cape Town, from world-class festivals and cultural showcases to sporting spectacles and community-driven initiatives.
Additionally, the HSBC Cape Town SVNS will be observed at DHL Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. The Mother City will also host Africa Games Week along with the Calypso Cricket Festival consisting the Voice of the Cape Summer Festival among others, this week.
