Cape Town: The Water and Sanitation Directorate of the City of Cape Town successfully replaced 16,095m of pipes across Cape Town. During March, they have reached 89% of its targeted 50,000m of water pipes an 89% of its targeted 100,000m of sewer pipes for the financial year.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Water and Sanitation – Councillor Zahid Badroodien said that investing in the reticulation network helps in reducing water wastage by upgrading old infrastructure and addressing any leaks, which supports the call of city to save water and be water-wise. City is keeping the flow going with 16km of pipes that has been replaced as of now.
Until now, more than 44,659, of water pipes and 89,454m of sewer pipes have been replaced across the city since the start of July 2024. It is a part of the annual proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme of the city.

The City of Cape Town has accelerated its pipe replacement efforts for the 2024-25 financial year by investing just over R523 million to replace the aged water and sanitation infrastructure.
Collecting everything altogether, in March 2025, the replacements made, are as follows:
- In total, 3513m of water pipes were replaced in Simon’s Town, Hout Bay, Glencairn, Kommetjie, Bergvliet, Retreat, Ottery, Tokai, Fish Hoek, Wynberg, Eerste River, Boston, Bellville, Sea Point, Goodwood and Panorama.
- A total of 12,582, of sewer pipes were replaced in Elsies River, Parow valley, Gugulethu, Claremont, Panorama, Montague Gardens, Table View, Brackenfell, Bellville, Sonstraal Heights, Uitsig and Kuils River.

Earlier, the Water and Sanitation Directorate of the City of Cape Town has made various replacements regarding the pipes across the city. Councillor Zahid Badroodien has always been active to initiate such projects and make them successful.
With these replacements of pipes the City of Cape Town desires to let the flow of water keep flowing continuously across the whole city without any restrictions or limitations or stoppage.
