Botswana: Commissioner of Police in Botswana Police Service Dinah Marathe, held a Media Conference on Tuesday in Gaborone. The aim of the media interaction was to inform the Media on the significant developments of the Botswana Police Service (BPS).
During the press conference held at the Police Headquarters, she informed the media about the upcoming scheduled construction of 28 Police Stations across the country. According to the Police Commissioner, the construction will be preceded by the Simultaneous Groundbreaking Ceremony.
The event will be hosted in Gaborone on august 20, officiated by President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. The Commissioner also said that BPS remained committed and resolute in its efforts to deliver on its core mandate.
They have been working hard to ensure public safety and security in partnership with the community. She said that the construction of 28 Police Stations is in alignment with their Corporate Development Strategy GOAL No.1.
According to the officers, the goal details the Organisation’s resolve to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
Commissioner Dinah Marathe stated that the Project was a massive undertaking that would significantly contribute to bringing policing services closer to the community. This is also a part of the Botswana Police Service national commitments and the Organisation’s transformation journey.
She added that the Project was approved under the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP). She believes that the project has a wider reach as it has targeted 27 villages and will be delivered through a Turnkey Approach.
The Commissioner appreciated the Government for its unwavering support towards Botswana Police Service. The government’s support allows the organization to serve better and protect Batswana, residents and visiting foreign nationals.
Commissioner Marathe also said BPS has pledged a customer-centric Police Service. They claimed that the “Voice of the Customer” remained vital in providing a relevant and professional policing service. Additionally, she said the Organisation’s prioritised focus areas towards meeting the customers’ expectations and needs include visible policing, traffic management, customer feedback, response to reports, quality of investigations, and staff welfare, among others.

The Commissioner highlighted another partnership project, the “Adopt a Police Station” initiative. She noted that the project was recently launched by the President, Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, in Gaborone.
She said it is a Police/Business Community partnership to uplift the look and feel of Police Stations, particularly Community Service Centres and their surroundings.
