CS Ababu Namwamba attends Bukhungu stadium groundbreaking

Kenya: The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Creative Economy, Ababu Namwamba attended the groundbreaking exercise of the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

The event was hosted on Friday ahead of the CHAN 2024 tournament. The preparations for CHAN 2024 tournament, entered top gear, with Kenya alongside Uganda and Tanzania set to co-host the tourney.

“This stadium is very important in the general ecosystem of sports in the country. We have seen the incredible potential that this stadium bears in hosting significant events.”

The stadium is being done in collaboration with the county government of Kakamega. The aim of the stadium construction collaboration is to elevate it to international status,

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Sceretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Art Ababu Namwamba assured his support. He said that his ministry is commited to develop a state-of-the-art stadium.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts is dedicated to developing the sports sector of the country. They are working to ensure that the sector can emerge as one of the most developed and sought after aspect of Kenya’s Economy.

“We promise you a stadium boasting a smooth and level playing surface with up to standard artificial turf, accompanied by a proper drainage system to avoid flooding. There will be four well-accessorized and easily accessible dressing rooms, and all seats will be  fitted with numbering,” CS Ababu observed.

The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by several other sigbificant stakeholders of the sports industry of the country.

On his part, PS Eng. Peter Tum underscored the need for meticulous planning and execution for Bukhungu Stadium to meet the rigorous requirements for hosting such a prestigious event.

“For Bukhungu to get CAF’s green light, it should be rated at category four by the African football governing body. We are going to provide all the necessary support to guarantee that these standards are met,” he quipped.

Present was Sports Kenya DG Pius Metto among other national and county leaders.
