Kenya: The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Creative Economy Ababu Namwamba led the groundbreaking ceremony. The groundbreaking ceremony was hosted on March 15 for the upgrading of the Kenya Ports Authority Sports Ground.

The sports infrastructure is situated in the Mbaraki region of Mombasa County. The groundbreaking ceremony of the sports ground was attended by several members of the ministry.

Director General of Sports Kenya, Pius Meto, and a delegation from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) were present at the event. The sports infrastructure is being constructed through the KPA seeking to promote sports in the country.

The Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba acknowledged the efforts of Kenya Ports Authority in promoting sports. The official further noted that it is important for the country to promote Mombasa as a coastal tourism destination of the country.

Kenya Ports Authority has played an important role in the promotion and nurturing of the talents of the country. The efforts of the KPA fall in line with the Talenta Hela Initiative of the Kenyan government.

The officials of Sports and Creative Economy have allocated funds to upgrade the Kenya Ports Authority Sports Ground. Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba announced that they allocated 250 million shillings to kickstart the upgrade.

Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Creative Economy assured that the government is dedicated to nurturing talents from the grassroots. The officials of the Ministry and Kenya Ports Authority will pool resources for the upgradation of the sports ground.

The management of the Kenya Ports Authority has thanked the Cabinet Secretary for taking up the enhancement initiative. The upgrade of the sports ground will help many youngsters of the country get access to better opportunities.

The Ministry noted that the initiative would create a low-altitude sports facility and foster talent growth in Kenya.

After the ceremony, CS Ababu Namwamba travelled to the Shimo la Tewa grounds in Shanzu. The aim of the visit is to assess the site for the possible establishment of a sports facility for the coastal region.
