DHL Stadium and Athlone Stadium to host World Rugby’s WXV Tournament

The Rugby tournament is hosted by South Africa that will be joined by the nations Japan, Australia, Wales, Scotland and Italy for the competition.

Cape Town: The DHL Stadium and Athlone Stadium will host World Rugby’s WXV Tournament where the Springbok women will face off against five other nations. The City of Cape Town is providing full support for the tournament.

Reportedly, the WXV 2 tournament is a part of World Rugby’s annual women’s rugby competition. The tournament consists of three rounds over three weeks.

The Rugby tournament is hosted by South Africa that will be joined by the nations Japan, Australia, Wales, Scotland and Italy for the competition. The Springbok women will kick off the tournament on Friday, September 27, 2024, as they go up against Japan at DHL Stadium. The game will kick off at 4:00 p.m.

As per the sources, DHL Stadium will host a clash between Australia and Wales on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:00 noon. After that match, the tournament will be followed by the battle between Italy and Scotland, held out for points at the same venue at 3:00 p.m.

Member of Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that for the second year running, Cape Town is hosting the marquee World Rugby tournament and this is testament to the Mother City’s reputation of hosting successful events.

Alderman Smith confirmed, “We are opening up two of Cape Town’s iconic stadiums to be the battleground for these titans of global women’s rugby.”

“We are extremely proud to be involved with a tournament that aims at growing the status of the women’s game. While also providing the skilled athletes with a platform to showcase their talent,” said JP Smith.

Smith also mentioned that he would like to urge the residents and visitors to show support to the teams by purchasing a ticket for as little as R35.

Notably, a total of nine matches will be played between September 27, 2024 and October 12, 2024. The complete schedule, that will be followed, goes as:

Round-01: The match will be played as South Africa v/s Japan, on September 27, in DHL Stadium at 4:00 p.m. Second match will be played between Australia v/s Wales on September 28, 2024, in DHL Stadium at 12:30 p.m. The third match for round-01 will be played between Italy v/s Scotland on September 28, 2024 in same stadium at 3:00 p.m.

Round-02: First match will be observed between Wales v/s Italy on October 04, 2024 in Athlone Stadium at 4:00 p.m. Another match will be played as Japan v/s Scotland on October 05, 2024 in the same stadium at 2:00 p.m. Third match that will be played is South Africa v/s Australia on October 05, 2024 in Athlone Stadium at 5:00 p.m.

Round-03: Battle of Wales v/s Japan will be observed on October 11, 2024 in Athlone Stadium at 4:00 p.m. Another match that will be played is South Africa v/s Italy on October 12, 2024 in Athlone Stadium at 2:00 p.m. Next match that is going to be played on October 12, 2024 in Athlone Stadium at 5:00 p.m. is Australia v/s Scotland.
