Cape Town organising a special edition of Kuier@TheCastle, CBD’s biggest monthly family-friendly creative and lifestyle event, in order to honour the Women’s Month, which will showcase the talents of dozens of local female designers and craft artisans who are highlighting the extraordinary contribution, made by women to the creative economy.
The Women’s Month edition of Kuier@TheCastle, is a must-visit event for locals and visitors, hosted by the City of Cape Town. The event is organised with the support of ‘Craft and Design Institute’ and ‘Castle of Good Hope’.
Kuier@TheCastle event is ideal for all, where the visitors will discover exquisite local artisanal products and creative workshops with delectable local foods and live music performances.
The visitors can enjoy the access to all Castle’s museums throughout the day, beginning from 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024. To enter the fest, interested ones needed to pay the selected fee, which is for adults – R30, for children and pensioners – R15, and for kids under age of 7 the entry is completely free. Secure and free parking lots will also be available via the Darling Street entrance.
The artistic fest will feature several fun creative workshops, offered by an immersive craft and arts experience. Interested in learning a new skill or just looking for spending quality time with family, the workshops are designed to offer something to everyone.
It will also showcase an insightful talk, which will be hosted by John Bauer for ceramics lover. Will also consist of a tour of the Iziko Ceramic Museum in the afternoon.
There will be special workshops running throughout the day for kids to explore their creativity and make their own craft pieces that they can also take home.
Spare time to explore the Castle, where all visitors can enjoy access to all the Castle’s museums and exhibitions throughout the day.
CEO of the Castle Control Board – Calvyn Gilfellan said that an additional attraction the Women’s month will hold is an exquisite exhibition by local artist Chantal Coetzee. Dubbed African Queens: Rewriting History, a visual art exhibition, that will be displayed inside the Castle’s Good Hope Gallery, celebrates and honours the life and times of African warrior queens who gallantly fought the armed colonial conquest on the continent.
It is a must-see collection running from August 09, 2024 to September 30, 2024 and Kuier@TheCastle guests, who will be able to meet the artist in person.
Additionally, Curator of the William Fehr Collection – Esther Esmyol, will be doing a free walkabout of the collection. Considering the Women’s Month, Esther will be concentrated on Lady Anne Barnard and other women in the William Fehr Collection.
The Walkabout of the William Fehr Collection will be at 12 noon, beginning at the steps to the right of the Kat Balcony.
