Cape Town: Domestic Animal Survey introduced by the City of Cape Town has gained momentum and is receiving a good response from the local residents. One week is in and the team has already conducted over 4,000 surveys and completed them, by adding up another 2000 online submissions in progress.
Reportedly, the Domestic Animal Survey was launched on Monday, March 17, 2025 in collaboration with the animal welfare sector. The survey will take place for than six weeks and will give the public an opportunity to share views and information on their own pets and also the animals in their communities.
The outcomes of the survey will help in shaping the future plans and interventions on animal welfare in Cape Town and will provide an estimation or maybe accurate count of the domestic animal population.
To observe the well-conduct of the ongoing survey, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith visited the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha as part of the efforts to promote participation in the survey.
As per the sources, the Domestic Animal Survey staff conducted door to door visits in the surrounding neighbourhoods to engage with residents about the survey, as they were also encouraged to provide mobile clinic services by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA as part of the outreach.

The survey can be completed by using only cellphone also. Alternatively, look out for the field workers in your area, who are conducting the in-person surveys. The more voices gathered on this critical issue, the better it is for the animal population and the welfare sector that works so hard to champion the animal rights.
