Dominica marks a major milestone, as Calibishie Water Supply Project nears completion. The Calibishie Water Supply Project is being executed by DOWASCO and funded by the Government of Dominica and the Caribbean Development Bank.
Reportedly, the completion of project will end the 30 years of water challenges faced by the residents of Calibishie and surrounding communities such as Savanpai and Quetico.
Considering this, Parliamentary Representative for Paix Bouche Constituency – Lakiya Joseph visited the site and inspected herself. She that they are finally seeing the project coming to fruition. The project has fulfilled the promise of a reliable water system, that has created a significant employment for the community.
Over 30 local residents have been employed as truck drivers, operators, timekeepers and labourers. Also, over a 7000 ft. of pipeline has been laid. The project is delivering a major water infrastructure upgrade for Calibishie and fulfills the commitment of the Dominica Government made during the last general elections.
Parliamentary representative Lakiya Joseph said that the project employees 18 years old too and enrolls a Tertiary Education Institution. The Calibishie people are very grateful for this project and the water supply network, which is 95% complete and over 3,700 feet of pipe has been laid.
Joseph confirmed that the Calibishie Water Supply Project is actually one of the promises made by the federation and has been kept.
Notably, DOMLEC has completed the power works for the new pump station and has strengthened the Calibishie Water Project worth EC $4.5 million. This marks a major step towards lasting water security and future utility expansion.
However, with the water security finally shaping its form and within reach now, the people of Calibishie can look forward to a future, where they will get the access to this basic necessity which is no longer a challenge.
Soon, it will the water supply facilities will be provided by the Government and Calibishie Water Project is going to create a history that will be remembered for years.
