Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit joined people of the Nature Island and celebrated the Creole Day on Friday, Oct 31, 2025. The commemoration of the day featured island’s rich heritage of language, music, dance and tradition.
At the annual event, the National Creole Dress Parade was also observed at the Headquarters of the Government which featured performances by various artists. Citizens of Dominica were also encouraged to celebrate the unique culture of this Caribbean island.
For Dominicans, Creole Day is more than just a festivity. It is a tribute to Dominica’s history of resistance, resilience and unity. Traditionally known as the ‘Jounen Kwéyòl’, the event reflected the enduring spirit and identity of the people of Dominica, from rhythms to the language.
Considering the commemoration of the cultural Creole Day 2025 which is marking the 47 Years of Progress and Purpose, PM Roosevelt Skerrit shared glimpses from the celebration day and expressed that he is proud to share in the joy of Creole Day with his family and every Dominican. He greeted Happy Creole Day to all.
Together, the Dominicans celebrated the culture and wore the creole clothes and belief. During the Creole Dress Parade the little ones looked gorgeous and adorable.
Jounen Kwéyòl honoured the stories of strength, language, music and soul that make them who they are, as this is their culture, their identity and their pride. Also the event welcomed various artists such as Chou Poul Ole Mas, DJ Rio and the Midnight Groovers.
Citizen of the Nature Island were seen showcasing the cultural attires and were seen wearing the madras and represented the country. Dominica is celebrating the Creole Day since its Independence in 1984.
Minister of Housing Development and wife of PM Skerrit, Melissa Poponne Skerrit shared some video clips and photographs from the Jounen Kwéyòl celebrations and greeted It’s Creole Day! the gorgeous little ones looked adorable in traditional apparels.
