Dominica: Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) received six new vehicles from the government with the objective to strengthen the law enforcement and community patrols.
Reportedly, out of those six handed over vehicles, four of them will be deployed to Salisbury, Salybia, Pointe Michel and La Plaine which will ensure the faster response on time and more efficient service delivered to the public.
This latest investment reflects the ongoing commitment of the government to equip the officers with the tools and resources that they need to keep the people safe and secure. These vehicles were a donation from one of the economic citizens of Dominica based on a request from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
The six new vehicles were presented during a handing over ceremony which was held on the grounds of the Police Headquarters on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that they gave a commitment for 10 vehicles and six have been delivered. The other four vehicles are on the water. He emphasised that handing over of the vehicles is part of the efforts to ensure that the police have the resources that it needs to carry out the mandate and of course access to transportation is key in this.
According to PM Skerrit, policing 20-25 years ago is completely different, and he noted that there are more communities to cover. He added that the record will show that as Prime Minister of Dominica, he always sought to provide the police with all the support required and to ensure that the police has the necessary resources to carry out its mandate.
Skerrit assured all that the country has his support and for the security of this state it is very important. He highlighted that the police service is in a much better position now, than it was 25 years ago or 10 years ago.
Meanwhile, the Minister for National Security – Rayburn Blackmoore said that the police department needs vehicles. He stated that the Chief of Police made a request for vehicles and he went to the Prime Minister Skerrit, to which he promised Blackmoore that he will get the vehicles for them all, just give him the specs.
National Security Minister Blackmoore said that the vehicles they received were built from scratch and considering the specifications provided by the police, these are not imposed by the Prime Minister on the police or any Minister, this is what they have asked for.
Blackmoore further added that the presence of Prime Minister during the handover ceremony is a demonstration of the support received from the government and so the outstations that are without vehicles are the most critical ones received on Friday.
