Dominica: China granted new medical supplies and equipment to Dominica-China Friendship Hospital on Dec 11, 2025. The day also marked the opening of new Guangzhou Medical University Overseas training centre.
CEO of the Dominica Hospitals Authority – Dr Kenneth Darroux described the donation as a significant advancement in healthcare journey of Dominica. Darroux said that this collaboration is a monumental step forward that advanced healthcare delivery in the hospital for the entire nation.
This received state-of-the-art medical equipment exemplified the commitment to provide top quality health care to the community. It empowered the dedicated healthcare professionals by offering the improved diagnostics, treatment and care for all the patients. The investment in the medical infrastructure is not merely a provision of tools. It is the embodiment of the collective vision for a healthier future where every citizen has access to quality healthcare.
Chinese Ambassador to Dominica – Chu Maoming said that the medical cooperation has always been a priority in the partnership between Dominica and China. He stated that it is based on the deep understanding of Dominica’s conditions and concern for the health of its people.
China has taken medical assistance as a key priority of cooperation of the past few years, responding to the urgent needs of Dominica with practical actions. Medical and health cooperation has always been a vivid epitome and the important carrier of the friendly relations between the two countries.
He further added to his statement that from the China medical teams conducting free clinicals and the mobile medical services in remote areas to batches of medical supplies being accurately delivered to people in urgent need. And, from medical personnel of Dominica going to China to learn advanced diagnosis and treatment technologies to experts from both sides joining hands to tackle difficult and complicated diseases.
Minister for Health, Wellness, and Social Services – Cassanni Laville said that both the donation of the equipment and the opening of the training centre will enhance the hospital’s ability to provide quality care to citizens.
Cassanni, Laville marked that the donation of medical supplies strengthens the health system, enhances service delivery, supports patient care and improves various diagnostics across all departments. It is equally significant as the establishment of the medical university overseas training center.
According to him, the center represents a new pillar of cooperation that focuses on knowledge, skills and innovation. Through this initiative, the medical professionals will benefit from advanced learning opportunities, exposure to new techniques, and enhanced competency aligned with global standards. It is a long-term investment in a sustainable, resilient health system that will benefit generations of Dominica.
